2009 - 2010 Varsity B City Champions, 76 - 62 over Bishop Loughlin

On Thursday, the Royals of Christ the King took on Bishop Loughlin for the Varsity B City Championship.

Loughlin started the game with a quick 10 - 2 run that could have easily sent CK home early. After a time-out by Coach Herring, the Royals slowed the tempo of the game, chipping a way little by little, until they eventually took the lead. The back and forth action of the first half ended with a 36 - 27 CK halftime lead.

CK maintained control of the game throughout the third, leading 58 - 48 at the end of the quarter. In the fourth, the Royals turned up the defensive intensity by putting on a full court press that Bishop Loughlin had no answer for. In the end, the Royals won their first championship on the Varsity B level with a 76 - 62 victory over rival Bishop Loughlin.

Leading the way for the Royals was game MVP Ian Duff with 22 points. Senior David Ortiz had 14 points, while Juniors Creshawn Jude and Malcolm Bettis combined for 25 points.

Some highlights from the Royals season include going undefeated in league play. Also, the Royals won the annual Varsity B tournament at Holy Cross, and were a perfect 3 - 0 vs. Bishop Loughlin.

Congratulations to seniors Vito Gerardi, Cameron Blain, Ian Duff, and David Ortiz on the completion of a great season and 4 great years as Christ the King players and students.

2009-2010 Men's Varsity B team

The Men's Varsity B 2009-2010 basketball season has gotten off to a fast start. Under the direction of first year Head Coach, Michael Herring, the Royals are 8-1 overall, 5-0 in league contests, and won the 2009 Clark Invitiational Tournament. Its foundation of team chemistry is based on their experience & athleticism.

The team is led by four seniors:
- David Ortiz who has accepted the role to run the team as point guard

- Ian Duff & Cameron Blain also bring great leadership & toughness as key reserves

There are 10 juniors who also bring hard work, commitment & togetherness everyday:
- Creshawn Jude who is arguably the team's best all-around player who does it all
- Malcolm Bettis who starts as the power forward who uses his size & quickness very well
- Chris Hartney is the team's big man in the middle as center who has really developed since the beginning of the season
- Rounding out the team is: Erickson Bryant (pg), Les Flagler (combo guard), David Lopez (combo guard), Jimmy Nolan (combo guard), Joe Torre (forward), Phil Mamby forward, & Joe Thompson (center).

The hard work this team puts forth everyday has not gone unnoticed. Varsity AA Head Coach, Joe Arbitello, stated: "This is one of the best Varsity B teams in a long time at Christ the King".
